Squonking for Beginners: A Quick Guide

There are many types of vape devices available in the market. Just one visit to your local vape shop, and you’ll realize that there are almost endless options for vapers to choose from. Today in the blog, we talk about one of these options: squonking vape devices. We’ll talk about how they work, their benefits, and if you should consider getting a squonking vape device.

What is an RDA?

Before answering and getting into what squonking is, we first have to understand what is and RDA. An RDA or rebuildable dripping atomizer is a type of vape device that does not have a tank. Instead of holding the vape juice in a tank, the user must directly drip vape juice from above into the coil manually. This has some advantages and disadvantages. For example, the flavor is much more intense because the vape juice is dripped just seconds before taking a drag. However, one of the main drawbacks is that one has to constantly drip vape juice into the device and carry vape juice bottles wherever you go. That’s why Squonking was invented.

What is Squonking?

Squonking is the solution to the RDA’s most significant drawbacks. Squonking refers to the action performed when using a squonking vape device. To understand what is squonking, you first have to know what the squonking vape device does.

A squonking device uses a small plastic bottle at the bottom of the mod, acting as both a dripper and a tank. This bottle is connected to the coil, where, when pressed, it delivers vape juice to the coil.

To squonk, in essence, means to press the little plastic bottle and automatically drip without lifting a finger or reaching for your vape juice bottle.

How Does Squonking Work?

RDAs work as follows. You wick your coils with cotton; you then drip vape juice into the coil and wick until they are saturated, and you start vaping. Eventually, you’ll run out of vape juice, and you’ll need to repeat the process.

Squonks work differently. They rely on several new components. First, you need a brand new mod with space at the bottom where a reservoir or a plastic bottle will go (these mods usually come with the bottle or reservoir). You also need a brand new atomizer (often called bottom feeder atomizers) with a hole in the center post that will connect to the reservoir. This connection will be plastic tubing that, when the reservoir is pressed, thanks to the pressure created, will feed vape juice up toward the atomizer and more precisely to the coil and the wick, where they will be saturated, and you can vape, with no need to drip from above. You’ll know you have to drip again once the flavor starts to go away, or you begin to get a burnt taste.

Why You Should Start Squonking

There are many advantages and benefits to using a squonking device. For starters, you don’t have to worry about manually dripping the vape juice into the atomizer, which is not only annoying but can also be messy. You can press the reservoir, and you’ll be automatically dripping.

Another advantage is that the reservoir can carry lots of vape juice, eliminating the need to carry around a vape juice bottle wherever you go. This is great since vape juices in your pocket could spill and again be messy.

With a squonk, there is also no more over-dripping or leakage. This is super important, especially for RDA users who found themselves leaking vapes because they couldn’t measure precisely when to stop dripping. With a squonking vape device, the vape juice goes back down to the reservoir, so there is no danger of over-dripping or leakage.

You also get to experience the benefits of an RDA without its disadvantages. That means more cloud production and intense flavor with every hit.

Is Squonking For Me?

After reading all this, you might be wondering if squonking is meant for you. While it does have some great benefits, you should be aware that squonking is not meant for everybody and requires a level of skill that only seasoned vapers have. That’s doesn’t mean that you will never be able to use a squonk; it just means that if you’re thinking of using a squonk device, you first have to be well versed in coil building, ohm’s law, know why voltage and wattage matter, and the importance of battery safety, among other things.

In essence, a squonk device is a mechanical mod, and mechanical mods tend to be more dangerous than devices with chips that regulate the battery’s electrical current. Without a chip, the battery could short circuit and explode. This is why it is so important to know how to build coils, know about ohm’s law, read voltage and wattage, and buy and take care of external vape batteries (18650s).

Conclusion

Squonking is not for everyone, especially vape beginners, since all squonking vape devices are mechanical mods, and there are no beginner squonk mods. But if you want to experience possibly the most intense flavor and cloud production a vape device can create, we recommend you read up and practice all the concepts explained above and try out squonking. You don’t need to be a genius to know all the concepts, but you need to be careful, and more importantly, you need to have some practice under your belt, specifically building coils.
