Box Mods Common & Advanced Settings Explained

Box Mods Common & Advanced Settings

Andres Roman |

If you just bought a new box mod you might be wondering what all the modes and settings are that appear and of which you can cycle through on your LED screen. These settings and modes are actually what you’ll be using to choose the wattage you’ll vape. But they are all different and have different purposes. This is why on today’s blog we are going over some of the most advanced and common settings to help you learn exactly what they are.

What are Box Mod Settings or Box Mod Modes?

Box mod modes, or settings, are the various advanced vaping modes that allow you to fine-tune your vaping experience. They vary from device to device but there are some common settings or modes that you will find across the board. For example, you might find a Bypass mode or temperature control (TC) mode with most box mods. However, there are many other modes and below we’ll do our best to explain each of them.

Power Mode

Let’s start with the simplest and most common mode: ‘Power mode’ allows you to select a wattage to vape. This is the default setting most box mods come with. Just raise or lower the wattage (or voltage) until you hit the recommended wattage your coil states you should vape your box mod at. That’s all there is to it.

Bypass Mode

Bypass mode is pretty simple to understand. With this mode selected, your box mod simply “bypasses” most of the features of the mod, turning it into basically a mech mod. As a mech mod, your box mod will rely only on your battery life and the resistance of your coil to generate vapor. The more full the battery is, the higher the wattage and the closer the battery is to being drained, lower the wattage. Be aware that most bypass modes don’t get rid of the safety features of the mod, which means you can’t vape at the wattages that some mech mods with no safety features can reach. Still, it’s a good mode if you want a similar experience to a mech mod.

Temperature Control

Temperature control is a way to create a set wattage that your vape won’t go over. Instead of the vape fluctuating, it always stays within a certain limit, which means you will avoid dry hits and won't burn your coil no matter how long you press the firing button. This mode only works with certain types of wires and when choosing TC you might have to choose your coil type. To learn more about temperature control and coil types, check out this blog. You must understand what each coil type does if you plan on vaping with temperature control.

Custom Power Curves

In more advanced box mods you’ll find a mode called “custom power curves.” This mode, believe it or not, actually changes the wattage while you vape. This can be great to create a unique vaping experience. Here the wattage rises or slowly drops. It takes a bit of experimenting but we think it's worthwhile for vapers who want complete control.

Memory Mode

Memory mode is easy enough to remember. This setting allows you to save wattages for later use. Depending on the box mod, you can save a certain number of preset wattages that you can use for specific tanks or atomizers without having to choose the wattage every time you vape. This is a time saver for vapers who want to quickly vape their mod and already know exactly the wattage they need.

DC Noise Cancellation

Another advanced setting of some box mods is the ‘DC noise cancellation mode’. In this mode you can actually make the components of your box mod quieter, effectively canceling any noise they might make when the box mod fires up. Pretty nifty if you are stealth vaping.
