How to Know if You are Ready for a Box Mod

How to Tell if You are Ready for a Box Mod

While this blog hints that you need to first be familiar with vaping before buying your first box mod, nothing could be further from the truth. In essence, we believe that you should start with a pod system since these devices are the easiest to operate, but there are many people who have started vaping with box mods and picked up vaping with ease. When it comes to vaping, there really is no right or wrong way to start.

However, the trend seems to be that people pick up first pod systems and then they move to box mods, which is who this blog was written for; those who have been vaping for a while and want to make the jump into vaping with box mods. So if you’re ready let’s get started.

Table of Contents:

  1. You’ve Done Your Research
  2. You Want More Cloud Production
  3. You Want to Try New Flavors
  4. Recommendations From eJuiceDB
  5. A More Customizable Experience
  6. Conclusion

You’ve Done Your Research

The first sign that you are ready for a box mod is that you have been doing your research on what you need to start using a box mod. Reading this blog will certainly help you get a grip on all the introductory concepts you need to know, but there’s always more to learn. For starters, if you want to learn more about using box mods we recommend you check out an external battery safety guide (you can read ours right here). If your box mod uses an internal battery, you won’t need to worry about battery safety, but if it doesn’t and you need to buy external 18650’s batteries, then this battery safety should be the most important thing you should learn, for your safety and the safety of others. Although they are rare, vape explosions can happen and almost 99% of the time they occur because the owner did not know how to take care of their batteries.

Another concept you should learn is the different types of atomizers you can use with box mods. With pod systems, you can’t change your atomizer since it already comes with the pods or it’s built inside the device. However, with box mods, you can change to various kinds of atomizers like Drippers, RBA, RTAs, Squonk atomizers, etc. In short, you have a lot of options to choose from when it comes to atomizers so it’s important to know what each does (you can read our intro guide to atomizers here).

It’s also important that you learn about the various settings that box mods come with. Most box mods allow you to choose between variable wattage, temperature control, and a host of other settings. And these are important to know because the type of coil you use will affect what settings are available to you. Every device might come with a different or new set of settings so it’s important that you are at least aware of the most familiar settings.

If you have been reading or researching and have come across these concepts, then you’re well on your way to picking up a box mod.

You Want More Cloud Production

Another sign that you are ready for a box mod is that you want a more intense vaping experience. While pod systems are perfect for ex-smokers who want something that comes packed with nicotine and feels like a cigarette, you don’t really get to blow massive amounts of clouds, and instead you create a small amount of vapor. If you find yourself feeling like this experience is lacking and you would rather have more cloud production, then you are for sure ready for a box mod. Box mods create copious amounts of clouds, and depending on the settings you choose or the atomizers you buy, you can even learn how to do vape tricks.

You Want to Try New Flavors

Another sign that you are ready for a box mod is that you are wanting to try new flavors. Although nicotine salts, which are used with pod systems, already come in various flavors, it’s no secret that there are more flavors and brands of traditional e-liquids that are used with box mods than nicotine salts that are used with pod systems. With box mods, a brand new world of flavors will open up to you and you’ll be able to vape everything from desserts to tobaccos to even seasoning flavored vape juices. For example, many vapers also claim that the flavor of a dripper, which is a type of atomizer used with a box mod, tends to be more intense than that of pod systems which could be a bit lackluster.

If you want a smaller size box mod that is less conspicuous than other box mods but still has the power of most box mods, then the Sigelei Humvee 80W is for you. With a slim look and a compact size, the Humvee 80W uses a single 18650 battery and, as its name states, has a wattage range of 5W to 80W, comes with an OLED screen, a Fog Tank or atomizer, and two coils that are perfect for even high VG ratio of vape juices. This starter kit comes with everything you need to start vaping with a box mod, and there’s no need to choose coils or atomizers since the starter kit comes with everything (except for batteries).

If you want to step things up a bit and get a proper box mod, then the FreeMax Maxus 200W Starter Kit is what you need. Available in six different colors, this powerful box mod has a wattage range of 5W to 200W, comes with a Maxis Pro Tank (which many reviews claims it’s one of the major reasons to buy this starter kit), comes with several settings you can use, and can take either a single 18650 battery or two 18650 batteries. It also comes with two mesh coils that will allow you to vape maximum VG vape juices. Be aware though that the batteries are sold separately.

A More Customizable Experience

Finally, if you want a more customizable experience, then for sure you are ready for a box mod. With box mods you can change (as long as you have the required 510 connection) the atomizer or tank the mod comes with. You can change drip tips and choose from wooden to plastic materials, and in some cases the power of the batteries since some mods can accommodate both 18650s and 20700s. Be aware though that while almost any tank or atomizer can fit into any mod, not every mod has enough power to run every tank or atomizer. For example, some tanks or atomizers need more wattage than others and they might not work properly on a single battery box mod. So remember to do your homework and find out if the tank is compatible with your mod in terms of power.

If you feel you’re ready for a box mod, then you probably are. As we wrote at the beginning of this blog, there is no big mystery with box mods, but it is important that you learn a couple of concepts before you buy them. In our opinion, it’s better to be prepared and know a bit about box mods before buying your first one. But if you’re hesitant about buying one and have done your research on battery safety and simply want more clouds or want a more customized experience, we say go for it!
